Carer Advocate

Applications are invited to join our Carer Advocacy Service team in a part-time Carer Advocate role. There are two part-time roles on offer.

The Carer Advocate will promote the rights of Foster & Kinship Carers in SA by providing individualised advocacy services, working collaboratively with the Department for Child Protection (DCP), Foster Care agencies, Kinship Care teams in addition to delivering programs and activities to facilitate the voice of Foster & Kinship Carers and improve the family based care system.

  • The role may have intra- and inter-state travel required
  • The role is a part-time, fixed contract until 30 June 2025
  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander candidates are encouraged to apply

Skills and Experience

The successful applicant will have:

  • relevant tertiary qualifications i.e. Social Work, Law, Allied Health, Community Services or relevant skills or lived experience
  • knowledge of the child protection system and sector
  • advocacy experience

Applicant Notes

In addition, it is expected that the successful applicant will have:

  • A current South Australian drivers licence
  • A satisfactory SAPOL National police clearance
  • A current Working With Children Check
  • Attended Child Safe Environments training in the past 3 years (or be willing to attend) and maintain this training
  • Australian citizenship or permanent residence status
  • access to a fully maintained, registered and insured motor vehicle

CF&KC-SA Board Recruitment

The opportunity exists to appoint a number of new CF&KC-SA Board Members to join the existing dedicated skills-based Board, working to ensure the vision of the organisation is realised within a structure of contemporary governance and leadership and the highest standards of probity and reliability.  New opportunities exist to contribute expertise in one or more of the following areas:

  • media and communications;
  • fundraising/grants management;
  • commercial/corporate management;
  • legal, governance, risk and compliance.

Expressions of interest are invited from both experienced and emerging governance professionals.  AICD qualifications will be well regarded but are not essential. An affinity and understanding in regard to the Carer community will be helpful.

The successful candidates will be attracted by an organisation with a compelling vision and be committed to making a positive impact in this sector by working collegially within the Board setting.  Strongly developed leadership, relationship building, influencing and communication capabilities will be important qualities for effective contribution to this Board.
