The Commissioner for Aboriginal Children & Young People, Ms April Lawrie, recently launched an Inquiry into the removal and placement of Aboriginal children and young people in South Australia. The Inquiry will consider how the Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Child Placement Principle is applied in the removal and placement of Aboriginal children in out-of-home care. Commissioner Lawrie has invited CF&KC-SA to provide a submission on behalf of Aboriginal Carers and Carers caring for Aboriginal Children & Young People (letter attached). CF&KC-SA is committed to ensuring the South Australian Foster & Kinship Carer voice is heard and intends to provide an organisational submission, which will incorporate Carer input and issues raised through our individual and systemic advocacy. CF&KC-SA will invite Carers to share their voice through surveys and consultation sessions. Opportunities to contribute will be communicated to our Carer membership shortly.
Alternatively, Carers can participate directly with the Commissioner’s office. To make a submission directly to the Commissioner, click here to find out the process.
Submissions can be made until 5.00pm on Wednesday 30 November 2022
Commissioner Lawrie is running a series of regional and metropolitan community forums to engage directly with Aboriginal family and communities – click here to find out when and where these forums will be.
