Changes to the NDIS – information for carers

Major changes to the NDIS have been announced by the federal government, which will reduce the number of people on the NDIS by 160,000. These 160,000 people are meant to be people with ‘mild and moderate’ disabilities. What this means in practice is still being worked through. The government is consulting with the disability sector, state and territory governments and establishing an expert advisory group to help them work this out.

CFKC has developed a briefing paper to help understand what the changes are, why the changes are happening and what our concerns are for foster and kinship carer families. One of our key concerns is what happens to vulnerable children and young people with disability or developmental delay who will no longer be eligible under the NDIS.

The paper also details what CFKC are doing, raising these issues at a state level with SA government, DCP and the Minister’s office and our collaboration with CREATE, Reily Foundation and CAFFSA to also raise these issues at a federal level.
