Carer Council Member: Peter Kennedy
Introducing Carer Council member, Peter Kennedy.
Peter is a respite foster carer and an ex-police officer from the Riverland.
We had a chat with Peter about his role on the Carer Council.
Q: What inspired you to join the Carer Council?
My wife and I have been foster carers for about 4 years. During this time we have seen how well the foster care system works. We have also seen opportunities for improvement. I see my involvement in the Carer Council as an opportunity to be part of conversations about positive enhancements to a good system.
Q: What experience and skills do you bring to the role?
I am 62 years old. I have been married 38 years and have raised 3 children and I am community orientated. I was a police officer for 43 years and I have been a Rotarian for over 10 years. I have been on numerous school and sporting committees.
One of my last roles was Manager of the Equity & Diversity Section of SAPOL, so I have an interest in fairness and negotiating outcomes that benefit vulnerable people.
I am involved in many community based activities. I am currently Vice President of the Riverland Eightball Association and the Riverland Crows Supporters Group (don’t hold that against me). I am a committee member of the River Rock Dance Club and my wife and I enjoy our Rock n Roll dancing together.
Thank you for your contribution Peter.
