Rights of foster parents and guardians to be changed as Finn’s Law is passed through South Australia Parliament

FINN’S Law, a bill which will change the rights of foster parents and guardians when a child passes away in their care, has passed through the Lower House today.

The Bill will now go before the Legislative Council.

Former mother of the year Monica Perrett has been fighting for foster carers and guardians to be recognised on death certificates and to have the right to make funeral arrangements, after she was denied access to information when her three-month-old nephew Finn passed away while in her care.

In July, Ms Perrett and her supporters walked from Crafers to the steps of Parliament House to remind the government to honour its 2014 promise to legislate “Finn’s Law”, and respect the right of foster parents…
