Ombudsman urged to investigate ‘bleaching’ of Families SA reports after Nyland Royal Commission finding

The State Ombudsman will be asked to investigate how often child protection workers’ reports are “bleached” of contentious details that could embarrass the State Government.

The Opposition has requested the inquiry off the back of Royal Commissioner Margaret Nyland’s report, which found a document handed to her inquiry was altered under direction from senior Families SA staff.

The move comes as Premier Jay Weatherill releases draft laws to create a Children’s Commissioner in line with Ms Nyland’s recommendations – but the breadth of the investigative powers continues to cause political dispute…
